"Pigmo" means colour and "lux" symbolises the power of light: together these two elements form the most successful and popular industrial paint palette of Austria's leading manufacturer of paints and varnishes, ADLER. Countless furniture factories, prestigious kitchen manufacturers and door suppliers across the whole of Europe turn to this diverse UV paint system developed in ADLER's paint and varnish lab in Tyrol when they need high-quality and durable surfaces in the most beautiful range of colours.

Solo or duo

"With Pigmolux DC and Pigmolux HQ customers basically have two options to choose from," explains Daniel Pesserer, Head of the Furniture Industry Division at ADLER. Pigmolux DC – which stands for "dual cure" – has two different curing mechanisms: on the one hand, by means of radiation with UV light, and on the other, through traditional crosslinking with a hardener. This brings the enormous advantage that even the parts of the workpiece that are insufficiently lit by the UV lamps – so-called shaded areas – are completely crosslinked, and that three-dimensional and secondary parts can also be coated with Pigmolux DC without UV radiation. "Pigmolux DC can also be used just as successfully as a single-component product and cured using UV radiation alone – for example, in the efficient coating of white doors and panels, where it is very much in demand," Pesserer underlines. However, both methods deliver equally good results in ensuring coated surfaces with a high degree of mechanical and chemical resistance, outstanding resistance to the effects of light and good filling performance.

Going for a spin in a racing car

If, on the other hand, it's important to you to achieve even better stackability and thus efficient application, as well as maximum durability, you may prefer Pigmolux HQ. The high-quality version is like the "racing car" of UV paints. With this paint, integrated recessed handles made of aluminium can be painted at the same time without an issue, for example, and even coffee stains or red wine marks will have no chance, even on pure white surfaces. After a couple of years driving the somewhat relaxed DC car, many manufacturers decide to switch up to the HQ version.

Plenty of diversity

One thing the two versions have in common is diversity: "We can adjust the pigment paint to fit in with the customer's ideas and there are almost no limits to what we can do in this respect. When it comes to degree of gloss, viscosity, texture and of course colour, we are unbelievably flexible – and we can now produce samples decentrally in our international sales offices in Benelux, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, Italy and Poland," emphasises Pesserer. Whether the paint needs to have anti-fingerprint properties, a particular surface quality or a unique, one-off colour – within 48 hours, all customers receive the perfectly fitting "made-to-measure suit" for their furniture!

ADLER – paint runs through our veins

With 720 employees, ADLER is Austria's leading manufacturer of varnishes, paints and wood preservatives. Founded in 1934 by Johann Berghofer, this family business is now managed by a member of the third generation, Andrea Berghofer. Every year, 21,000 tonnes of paint leave the Schwaz plant and are delivered to customers in more than 30 countries worldwide. ADLER has sales subsidiaries in Germany, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia; their sole production site is the ADLER-Werk Lackfabrik in Schwaz, Tyrol (Austria). ADLER was one of the first companies in its sector to be 100% climate-neutral (since 2018). The company has been able to reduce its carbon footprint to a minimum through a wide range of measures. ADLER offsets any unavoidable residual emissions through the purchase of recognised climate protection certificates, thereby helping to finance new climate protection projects
