Stylish and elegant design with sustainable quality

In the year 1934, Johann Berghofer opened a paint store in the Austrian town of Schwaz and, over the course of the years, it developed into the paint and varnish manufacturer ADLER. In the same year, 400 kilometres to the south of Schwaz, close to the city of Milan, Piero Boffi opened a carpentry workshop specialising in kitchens. Today, almost 90 years later, ADLER has expanded to become one of the top brands for environmentally friendly water-based paints and varnishes – and Boffi is now the company of choice for designer kitchens. Yet it's not just the similarity in their history that connects these two family businesses – they also both have high standards when it comes to quality and sustainability and both have a strongly customer- focused culture. So it was only a matter of time before Boffi and ADLER, two kindred spirits, would find one another: for around 10 years now, Boffi have been using coatings by ADLER to finish the kitchens and furniture they produce.

Kitchen highlight

The modular kitchen system Xila is one of the high points of the Boffi range. This timeless kitchen has a refined and stripped-back design, and features stylish and elegant materials: natural wood forms a harmonious relationship with metal or with the innovative mineral composite material MDi by Inalco. Bluefin Terra-Diamond by ADLER is used to create a stylish and elegant surface and gives reliable protection to the wooden elements, which are made from smoked and stained oak. This is a high-quality, resilient and, above all, sustainable furniture varnish with an extremely low VOC content of less than 6 %.

Perfect surface

The outstanding environmental credentials of Bluefin Terra-Diamond are one of the key reasons why Boffi chose this coating – but by no means the only one: "The surface is like the business card of a kitchen and it determines the first impression that the customer gets – that's why we consider it to be of crucial importance to ensure a perfect surface quality. Bluefin Terra-Diamond enhances the grain of the wood beautifully, has a lovely smooth feel and looks very attractive," explains Roberto Gavazzi. The painted elements of the kitchen look just as good too. Here, Boffi use a custom-made product which ADLER has developed for them from their efficient all-in-one coating Bluefin Pigmores 4in1: it has a lovely soft feel and is highly durable and resilient, and Gavazzi also appreciates the wide range of colour options on offer: "In our kitchens, we do of course react to general design trends, but the most important thing for us is that we are able to respond to the individual wishes of our customers – we can do this with ADLER."

Sustainable partnership

First-class quality with a strong focus on sustainability – this is Boffi's credo. Sustainability is an integral part of their corporate culture and is evident in all areas of the company, from the selection of raw materials and production processes through to social issues and economic decision-making. Boffi pursues the concept of the circular economy so that they can offer their customers the very best, not just in regard to quality and design, but also in environmental terms. They have found the perfect product to do so in the ADLER range: the furniture varnish Bluefin Terra-Diamond is the first furniture varnish to have received the circular economy's Cradle to Cradle certification. It is made of 85 % natural and renewable raw materials and is manufactured using methods that are environmentally friendly and conserve resources. Roberto Gavazzi explains: "From the one-to-one support that we get from ADLER's representative Andrea Arnaldi and the precise technical service that they offer, through to the high quality of their products and their genuine commitment to sustainability – in ADLER we have found the perfect partner for our surfaces."

ADLER – paint runs through our veins

With 720 employees, ADLER is Austria's leading manufacturer of varnishes, paints and wood preservatives. Founded in 1934 by Johann Berghofer, this family business is now managed by a member of the third generation, Andrea Berghofer. Every year, 21,000 tonnes of paint leave the Schwaz plant and are delivered to customers in more than 30 countries worldwide. ADLER has sales subsidiaries in Germany, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia; their sole production site is the ADLER-Werk Lackfabrik in Schwaz, Tyrol (Austria). ADLER was one of the first companies in its sector to be 100% climate-neutral (since 2018). The company has been able to reduce its carbon footprint to a minimum through a wide range of measures. ADLER offsets any unavoidable residual emissions through the purchase of recognised climate protection certificates, thereby helping to finance new climate protection projects
