Perfect results, even when coating difficult wooden substrates, thanks to a new ADLER technology.

Aqua-Isoprimer CT PRO. Sounds complicated. But it isn't. Quite the opposite: ADLER's new water-based insulating primer makes life easier for painters and decorators, especially when it comes to coating difficult substrates – and lives up to its cumbersome name!

Aqua means water – and using water-based systems is the order of the day for painters and decorators! Reduced levels of odour, greater sustainability and user-friendliness are some of the key reasons for reaching for water-based paints and varnishes. In particular on difficult substrates such as wood that has yellowed to a severe degree, water-based systems have up until now sometimes reached the limits of their capacity. That's why Austria's leading manufacturer of paints and varnishes, ADLER, has developed a new product that is proving to be a great problem-solver for all kinds of wood coatings.

Alternative insulating technology

Their new Isoprimer does exactly what it promises: it insulates and primes the surface. But it gives much better results than any other product! Its secret is something called CT, which stands for cationic technology. This alternative insulating method uses a highly advanced chemical mode of action to successfully deal with even the most stubborn of marks: "Active substances in the wood that are difficult to insulate against – for example, lignin or tannin – as well as watermarks and rust or nicotine marks are usually anionic or polar, meaning they have a negative charge. The binding agent therefore contains cationic particles which have a positive charge. Poles with opposing charges are attracted to one another, so the dirty marks become attached to the binding agent. This prevents them from penetrating through into the topcoat," explains Dr Markus Fessler, Head of the Development Group for Window and Construction Paints for Trade & Commerce at the ADLER laboratory.

By professionals for professionals

The PRO in the product's name means professionals – because that is who the new development is primarily aimed at: "Painters and decorators often face the challenge of having to renovate old timber substrates. With our special primer, they can now achieve great results, quickly and easily," underlines Jan Schwämmle, technical field sales employee for Window and Construction Paints at ADLER. Because this new and generally improved primer not only performs well on account of its outstanding insulating and barrier function against water-soluble substances in the wood. The product also stands out with excellent adhesion, fast through-drying, great flow, a high degree of elasticity and good filling performance. "You can paint over this primer after just six hours," Schwämmle emphasises. This means that both the primer and the intermediate coat can be completed in the course of one working day, bringing huge time savings. All the more so because Aqua-Isoprimer CT PRO is also suitable for use on interior surfaces that are subject to a low level of wear, as a 2in1 primer and topcoat – not only in white, but also in a further selection of colours. This makes it the ideal candidate for wooden ceilings, interior doors and wall panelling. And DIY enthusiasts who want to work like professionals will love the fact that Aqua-Isoprimer CT PRO is so easy to use.

Insulation? Easy!

This primer can be painted over with any of ADLER's water-based topcoats – for example, with Aqua-Nova PRO or ADLER Varicolor in a variety of colours. It is very important when painting over the primer to use new paint brushes or spraying equipment (in the ideal case) or at least equipment that has been very thoroughly cleaned. Yes, that's right: this insulating primer can be applied to good effect with a paintbrush or roller, as well as with the more efficient spray-painting method. Whether it's for horse riding obstacles outside or for an old door inside the home – Schwämmle has himself done extensive testing of the new Aqua-Isoprimer CT PRO and feels certain that it won't be long before all quality-conscious coating experts will know this name!

ADLER – paint runs through our veins

With 720 employees, ADLER is Austria's leading manufacturer of varnishes, paints and wood preservatives. Founded in 1934 by Johann Berghofer, this family business is now managed by a member of the third generation, Andrea Berghofer. Every year, 21,000 tonnes of paint leave the Schwaz plant and are delivered to customers in more than 30 countries worldwide. ADLER has sales subsidiaries in Germany, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia; their sole production site is the ADLER-Werk Lackfabrik in Schwaz, Tyrol (Austria). ADLER was one of the first companies in its sector to be 100% climate-neutral (since 2018). The company has been able to reduce its carbon footprint to a minimum through a wide range of measures. ADLER offsets any unavoidable residual emissions through the purchase of recognised climate protection certificates, thereby helping to finance new climate protection projects.
